Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream and L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Triple Power Anti-Aging Moisturizer are two of the best-known drugstore anti-aging creams. The short answer: Olay's formula centers on niacinamide plus a blend of peptides, including palmitoyl pentapeptide-4. L'Oréal's also contains niacinamide, but its headline ingredients are "Pro-Retinol" (retinyl palmitate), a vitamin C derivative (ascorbyl glucoside) and hyaluronic acid. Both come in fragranced and fragrance-free versions.

The short answer

Feature Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream L'Oréal Revitalift Triple Power
Headline actives Niacinamide, peptides Pro-retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid
Retinoid None listed Retinyl palmitate
Peptides Palmitoyl dipeptide-7, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, tripeptide-3 None listed
Niacinamide Yes (high on list) Yes (high on list)
Other notable Panthenol Caffeine, adenosine, capryloyl salicylic acid
Fragrance-free option Yes Yes

Ingredient lists come from each brand's US product page (Olay; L'Oréal Paris). Olay's current US formula lists three peptides; older and other regional versions list palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 with sodium hyaluronate. Check your package.

What's in Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream

Glycerin, niacinamide, panthenol and dimethicone form the core, with Olay's "triple collagen peptide" blend. Niacinamide improved fine lines, blotchiness and elasticity in a controlled split-face study (Bissett et al., Dermatol Surg, 2005), and palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 improved wrinkles versus placebo in a 12-week split-face trial (Robinson et al., Int J Cosmet Sci, 2005). Both studies were conducted by Procter & Gamble researchers, Olay's parent company.

Best for: people who can't tolerate retinoids, sensitive skin (fragrance-free version), and use morning or night.

What's in L'Oréal Revitalift Triple Power

Glycerin and niacinamide lead the list, followed by caffeine, ascorbyl glucoside, sodium hyaluronate, retinyl palmitate and adenosine. Retinyl palmitate is a retinol ester that must be converted in the skin to retinoic acid, and esters are generally considered milder and less potent than retinol (Mukherjee et al., Clin Interv Aging, 2006). It also contains a small amount of capryloyl salicylic acid (LHA), a salicylic acid derivative.

Best for: people who want a gentle retinoid-adjacent day or night cream, and those focused on dullness and hydration.

How they compare for anti-aging

Neither replaces daily sunscreen, which is the AAD's top anti-aging recommendation (AAD: wrinkle remedies), and neither is as potent as a dedicated retinol or prescription tretinoin. Either can serve as the moisturizer in a routine that includes a separate retinoid at night. See peptides vs retinol and our niacinamide guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does Revitalift contain real retinol?

It lists retinyl palmitate, which L'Oréal calls Pro-Retinol, not retinol itself.

Can I use either with a retinol serum?

Yes. Both work as a moisturizer over a retinol at night. Olay's has no retinoid; Revitalift's ester is mild, but watch for irritation.

Which is better for sensitive skin?

Choose the fragrance-free version of either and patch test.

Bottom line

Olay leans on niacinamide and peptides; L'Oréal adds a mild retinol ester and vitamin C derivative. Choose by the ingredients you want, and pair either with daily sunscreen.
